Christian Student Center

The Christian Student Center (CSC) exists to connect Purdue students to Christ and His community. We do this by learning and practicing how to Love God, Love Each Other, and Serve the World.

Who We Are

We are a diverse group of flawed people who believes the God of the Bible loved us enough to create us and sustain us no matter what we’ve done or what we’re going through. Though we are pursuing different majors and life goals, we are all united in the love of God.

Our Facility

The CSC is a great place to hang out, eat lunch, use the free wireless, play board and video games, and find a nice quiet spot for study or prayer (or naps!). CSC members also get free parking in our back lot.

We strive to be a home away from home for anyone who is college aged. We are a ministry of the Elmwood Church of Christ which means each CSC member gets adopted” by a local family who becomes an extra support network for his or her time at Purdue.

What We Do

CSC-Encounter-gray-150dpi

Encounter

Join us for our weekly devo, Encounter. Every Wednesday at 7:00 pm, we gather at the CSC to intentionally be with God and with one another. We always eat first, (dinner is free and home cooked) and then we spend time either singing, praying, hearing a message, having a discussion, or some combination of spiritual practices.

Growth Groups

One of the best ways to learn more about what it means to be like Jesus is in our Growth Groups. These are voluntary gender specific groups of 2 or 3 where students learn to share life together through honest conversation, scripture, and prayer.

Our Student Led

Ministry Coordination Team

Each year, we choose student ministry coordinators to help plan and guide our different activities as we try to live out God’s vision for our lives, this ministry, and this campus. If you’d like to meet them face to face, stop by the CSC anytime. Our leaders keep office hours throughout the week or you can schedule a time by sending us an email. They’d love to answer your questions, pray with you, or go grab lunch.

CSC Events

CSC-Events-vertical
August

Root Beer Kegger
We celebrate the end of the first week of classes with the Root Beer Kegger. It’s a great chance to relax, meet some people, and have some fun. There will be loads of free food from local vendors, fresh cotton candy and popcorn, games, and, of course, root beer!

College Sunday
Students are always welcome and considered family at Elmwood, but on the Sunday after classes begin, immediately following Bible Study, students are invited to a special potluck (or pitch-in depending on where you’re from) in their honor.

September

Progressive Dinner
We spend an evening eating a delicious four course meal at the homes of four different Elmwoodians (a term of endearment for our beloved Elmwood family). Some of the best stories of the year come from this night. Oh, and wear your stretchy pants!

October

Fall Retreat
Take a break from the hustle of bustle of school and jobs and join us one weekend in the Fall as we draw closer to God and to each other.

Trunk-or-Treat
Every October, we dress up and help Elmwood host a Trunk-or-Treat for families in the community.

Halloween Party
Usually on the last weekend in October, we go to the Martins' house for food, games, and a scary movie.

November

Winterization
We join about 2,000 Purdue students in preparing yards and homes of the elderly and disabled in Tippecanoe County for winter.

Thanksgiving Encounter
During our last Encounter before Thanksgiving, we host a traditional Thanksgiving meal for our FriendSpeak readers and friends.

December

Encounter Outing
On the last Wednesday before finals, instead of our regular Encounter, we go to Pappy’s and the Union Rack and Roll.

Christmas Party
On the First Saturday in December, we go to the Freudenthals’ for delicious food, games, and a White Elephant gift exchange.

Mid-Night Breakfast (also in May)
Once the first day of Finals is over, we take a study break and head to the CSC for breakfast at 10:00 pm (not midnight. See, it’s Mid-Night because 10:00 pm is the middle of the night. Get it? Yeah, we really don't either, but it's great anyway!)

Christmas for Everyone
Every year our students help Elmwood provide Christmas presents for those in our community who might not be able to do so otherwise. Sometimes we shop, and sometimes we sit and eat with the families as we all wrap the presents together.

January

Gulf Coast Getaway
Every MLK weekend, we go down to Panama City Beach with a couple of thousand other college students to worship, learn, and grow closer with God and one another. It’s like a Winter Retreat on the beach!

February

Super Bowl Party
We always invite our FriendSpeak friends over to watch the big game and play some other games.

March

Spring Break Mission Project
Some years we travel and some years we stay right here in the Greater Lafayette Area. Either way, some students will choose to spend part of their Spring Break intentionally serving those in need and being opened to the various ways they may be called to serve the Kingdom.

April

Banquet
Each Spring we celebrate another year together, remembering what God has done and honoring our graduates who are being launched into another season of life.

Summer

LST Projects
Some years our students will serve abroad for about 3-6 weeks working with Let’s Start Talking (LST). This is the parent organization of FriendSpeak, but instead of working with international students and scholars, our students travel internationally.

Summer Encounter & Classes
Just because it’s Summer, it doesn’t mean we stop meeting together. Those who are here for the summer still get together on Wednesdays to hang out & pray and on Sundays for bible study.

New Students

We know this whole college thing can be exciting, scary, thrilling, confusing, and hectic all at the same time. We get it! And then there is your relationship with Christ. Everyone is in a different place on the journey. No matter what you’re feeling or where you are on the spiritual path, we’re here to help you along the way. Whether you’re still deciding what college to attend, packing your bags for Purdue, or if you’re already here but still trying to find your way, we want to walk with you. There are plenty of ways to find out about us: browse this site or check out our socials.

If you’d like a tour of the CSC or to talk to our minister or students, send us an email or stop by our weekly devo, Encounter, or one of our other events.

How You Can Help

Here at the Christian Student Center, it takes a lot to do what we do. With all of the mission efforts, student outreach, and retreats, we have a lot of students to love and a lot of expenses to meet. Please do not feel obligated to give, but any donations will be accepted with grateful hearts. Here are a few ways you can help:

Pray

If you wish to support us through prayer, please join us in praying for our students, volunteers, ministry staff, and presence on Purdue’s campus and in the community.

Bring Food

We feed our students at every Encounter during the school year, if you would like to help provide one of these meals, please send us an email.

Adopt a Student

Help provide a home away from home environment for our students by checking in on them, grabbing a coffee together, being a mentor, etc. For more information, please email us.

Financial Support

You may donate online or by check. If you support us by check, please include a note specifying you'd like the funds to go towards the CSC. Make checks payable to
